Hi, I have almost all the major parts for a new PC and so I was wondering, as I order the RAM right now what else I need. I mean things like power cables, adapters, etc... Anything that wouldn't be included but is required to operate the computer, Thanks!

You shouldn't need cable adapters. Your video card doesn't require a power connection, all modern PSUs have SATA power connectors, and even if they don't, usually your motherboard will ship with at least one adapter cable.
Your case should have all the necessary mounting hardware, unless you want to add more fans there's not much else that you need -- it's all cosmetic.

Yes I'm looking at that right now >.>
I need an optical drive and RAM. I'm also buying a 99 cent power cable because my PSU doesn't come with one (...).
Next on the docket is sound card, LAN card, and cd/dvd burner - then it's all done and I can start the fun of constantly upgraded everything quarter for the rest of my life.
Wondering someone could recommend an optical drive, black, good quality.
Side note: All they do is play and read CD-ROMS and DVDs, right?
edit: post 117 (master chief is maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaster)

I thought you needed 2 separate ones - this one does everything?
Does everything you want/need to do, and has a few hidden cherrys in it too

onboard audio is good these days too, so soundcards are kind of pointless unless you plan on taking full advantage of the extra power and software it provides. o_O
goin' all out?
goin' all out?

well, if he wants EAX, he'll want a creative card
and regardless of what Komet says, Audigies are still good cards that give you everything you need. and theyre a lot cheaper than X-Fi's

@ DOUG - I was planning on getting a good NIC card, like the Killer NIC - all the reviews hail it has pure pwnage
@ Spin - Yes I'm going all out
Totally uber PC (well not THAT uber, but piece by piece I'll uberize it; need to actually get it first though
) Also, I read that Sound Cards, while not only giving MUCH better and more realistic sound quality, also help game performance by freeing up the processor for more important things I think the same way video cards work. Don't quote me, but you know... if I'm gonna have a sweet surround sound set-up, I want an EAX 5.0 Xi-Fi!!!

Need we bring up the NIC card thread? Just kidding man, but really that card isn't worth it. It has a low performance boost for such a large price. Whether gaming or not, the increase is negligible unless you are running a high bandwidth server(and then you would use a different card).

WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the integrated LAN is identical to a "killer nic," - but one is free, and the other is an extra $200+. i promise you would see ZERO difference. all the praise of extra "special" nics is a bunch of bullshit designed to steal your money

gaming grade sound cards that ull be buying will not have much of a noticable increase in sound fidelity. you are going to have an AMAZING processor that will RARELY hit 100% processor utilization on both cores - ull see ZERO noticable gaming improvement by "taking work away from the proc"

Oh, thanks guys. One thing though, I got a mATX mobo so would it still have an onboard LAN and if yes, would the quality be comparable?
Anyways, the sound card and (probably not anymore
) LAN card were going to be later additions, I just want to get the essentials for now. Then I'll load it with useless shit, LEDs, and glowy tube things... j/k I hate those.

X-Fi's are like $30 more than Audigy 4s, that's why I recommend them. And I still love my Audigy 4 to death so there.QUOTE (QuamSerena @ Dec 12 2006, 08:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You won't notice the performance gains because CPUs are much more powerful than they were. However, the sound will be better.QUOTE (QuamSerena @ Dec 12 2006, 08:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Quality of what? You plug it the fuck in, and you get internet. Done deal. They all work just fine.QUOTE (QuamSerena @ Dec 12 2006, 08:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

ixnay on the Failure NIC, but yeah you'll probably want an X-Fi later on.
