Diskeeper is not free, though if you find a copy and cancel automatic updates etc there is no reason for you to not use it forever.
Windows defragmenter is AWFUL, as is every other utility that comes along with Windows. It's not at all thorough and takes literally all day.

i just torrented diskeeper pro. works pretty well
doesnt slow down your pc or anything and takes half the time as the windows one.

Because if you are running warez, why the hell would you want the app to "phone home"?
That said, these niggles could be eradicated if you just buy the program for £25.

They'll probably send a "cease and desist" letter to your ISP saying that you need to uninstall all pirated software from your PC. So, if you reinstall and get caught again, you're fucked.
