So, I got past that part when you have to kill the big fatass in the chamber (can't remember the name), and decide to take a break so i turn it off, play it again later, and it fucks up. Screen goes grey-ish, can't do anything, waited a good 15 minutes. I have no choice but to restart manually. So I do and it fucks up THE WHOLE PC. Tells me I have critical errors, and need to back up my HDD. It loads XP like a damned turtle, and everything else is ungodly slowed down. So I uninstall, do a disc cleanup, and defrag. Runs a bit better. I still want to play Quake 4 though. Will the patch help anything? It probably isn't a heat problem, because I can run any other game and it doesn't do anything like this. sorry for long read
. i think i may know the problem. my drivers are wayy outdated. i have 6.5 catalyst when i think 6.8 is out. could this be the problem?

Check you're event viewer in administrative tools, see if theres any harddrive errors in the system section, then you can rule out bad sectors/block etc if there are no errors, besides that it's beyond me. You might get more replies if you ask a mod to move this to the hardware/software section.

Try updating the drivers. There have been patches lately, you'd do well installing those too.

i doubt it's ur drivers if the problem occurred basically instantly. i would guess that it's a hardware problem. run diagnostic programs on hdd, ram and cpu.
