I have Bell Sympatico. I really wished I had cable, but since Bell fucked us over for our phone service we got a free upgrade to the "Ultra Highspeed" or some bullshit. I did the frontier.net speedtest and these were my results.

dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-07-07 14:29:54 EST:
4017 / 668
Your download speed : 4017 kbps or 502.2 KB/sec.
That is 61.3% better than an average user on sympatico.ca

Your upload speed : 668 kbps or 83.5 KB/sec.
That is 27.4% better than an average user on sympatico.ca

The pcpitstop test was roughly the same.

Thats pretty good I guess, considering I don't pay for it.

Can the speed of a computer, processor or ram, effect internet speed?

depending on what connection you guys use, if you have dsl, depending on how far you are from their box your signal/speed may suffer, its happened to me, I got a signal but it sucked and dropped constantly...now on cable it's different but if everyone around you is on at the same time speeds may vary, in my neighborhood alot of people use dsl and i and some others use cable so my speeds are pretty good most of the time...

It just depends where you are and what you can get...

Pwnage...I got 6970/948 on dslreports.com test, and mine is advertised as 7000/1000. Damn good, considering I'm in northern Canada as compared to the dslreport.com servers in Florida.

Shaw. I looked at the records of other Shaw users on that site and found I had the highest speeds. Second highest was 6915/945.

I got 1492.3 Kbps on the cnet test. [[url="http://reviews.cnet....7-0.html"]here]
I am connected through a firewire on this pc, and I noticed a speed increase from when I was using usb. But I also changed modems at the same time so I'm not sure what kind of difference that makes.

Again, can the speed of a processor, ram, etc, affect internet speed?
