i just bought F.E.A.R and when ever i try to go into a server or even on single player it freezes during loading and i was wondering if it was something w/ my hardware or something i can fix ...so heres my system

pentium 4 CPU 2.0 ghz
768 ram
nvidia geforce 6200 (256 ram)

p.s. i installed it on an external hard drive so would that slow it down??

and also... how can i find out the speeds of my usb ports?

i posted this in hardware but no reply yet and i need a quick response....... icon_sad.gif brian.png

Don't play online icon_razz.gif
Really though, I think the 50$ I paid for F.E.A.R. were put to more than excellent use in the single player missions... so intense. Haven't even tried the online yet

2. No off-topic posts - post only if you have something useful and on-topic to say.

Don't hassle someone and go off-topic to discuss why their hardware is not in line with your taste - keep to the topic in their topic and answer their question. Create your own topic if you want to talk about why you don't like their hardware unless it is directly related to their question.

I am very serious about this, so please be supportive to your fellow PP members.

Heed his warning playerkill.

It could be video card drivers. I would recommend downloading the latest Nvidia drivers.

In addition, run your antivirus and your antispyware applications. Also run disk check on the drive.

Of course he has the latest DirectX. F.E.A.R. requires 9.0c. If you don't have installed, it auto-installs it for you.

Shaders are not updated with driver downloads.

Speed of your USB ports can be determined in a number of ways. Post the output of Everest Home Edition.

If I remember my values correctly, USB 1.0 runs at something like 1.5 megs a second doesnt it? And USB 2.0 is like 3 megs... Could be wrong tho.

Yes. They're updated with DirectX releases, assuming your hardware supports the new shaders (which it won't, for the most part. I don't ever recall a GPU coming out specced for a higher level of DirectX than what was already out).

Similarly, OpenGL ABIs are updated with driver releases, but those are rare.

Ah, evol, another person capible of a conversation. I was going to recomend that but CPU-Z screens would really help me more. Its probably usb 2.0, look for its speed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_2.0 . The system isnt at a bottleneck, but its not going to run the engine great in the first place. Toning down the graphics settings would help (turn down CPU settings as well). I would also make sure the ram is at a 1T timing, not that "auto" bios shit.
