I have just wondered how many people actually do these things. Personally I do laugh when I type 'LOL' but not 'lol'.

Language is a very funny thing. icon_smile.gif

(I imagine it's quite hard to type if youre rolling on the floor laughing, too) icon_wink.gif

Edit: I'll probably write a blog entry about this, so this is just some quick research.

ANOTHER QUESTION:

Do you LOL, ROFL, LMAO sarcastically?

Why are you scared of heights?
Many people are scared of heights.
It's not the height that bothers me. It's the impact that terrifies me.

When I type lol, rofl or lmao it means I find it funny and I will sn00b or chickle to myself. When I type in caps I usually have that particualar reaction, though in the case of ROFL it's more likely losing my balance or spitting my drink everywhere.
What came first, the spamming or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids reading thousands, literally thousands of posts about anime, 4chan, flaming, goatse and emos. Did I make terrible posts because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I made terrible posts?

I'm usually smiling if I say lol and if I say LOL I'm laughing out loud.
Usually, if I say rofl I find something extremely funny, but I won't be rolling on the floor.. probably just lol'ing for longer than usual and I don't think I use lmao much...

occasionally I do laugh out loud when I 'lol' but its usually more of a smile or a chuckle.

I agree with the capitals thing, when I LOL its generally a proper laugh.

I don't actually use the terms 'lmao' or 'rofl' as I think they are too OTT and basically make the person using them sound kinda st00pid.

When I type 'lol' I usually can't think of anything else to say, but if I type 'LOL', I'm probably laughing. I don't type rofl when I find something really funny... Rofl is more like:

"Omfg I got owned"
"Rofl"

And lmao is on top of my laughter scale, if I say that or 'LMAO' then I am laughing my ass off... But not literally lol icon_razz.gif

When I type "lol", it usually means I would have laughed out loud if the same thing had been said in a face-to-face or voice conversation. I rarely laugh out loud when I'm just typing on IRC or MSN unless something is VERY funny; usually a "lol" from me means it raised a smile icon_smile.gif

mengzor wrote it down pretty well, you won't catch me really laughing if I type "lmao" on MSN. I also tend to use it sarcasticly or for the sake of saying something.

This is exactly what has been going on through the entire thread, and it's not the first time either.
You come to us for advice..you just spell out what you want to get, and then ask us if it is okay, and we have to explain why it isn't. That's the world upside down.. If you would just say 'hey guys, I have an X amount of money, what should I buy?' Then this would be over in 2-3 posts, not 2-3 pages.

Every time someone goes against Weiman's sig I feel like they should be bludgeoned for a few minutes in the head to feel the headache I feel when I realize someone really IS that dense.
