What do you guys recommend for the Power Supply? How much wattage and what brand?

Google PSU calculator and look up how much you need. It's probably much lower than you expect.

You shouldn't buy a PSU with 'just what you need', however. Your system should only take up about 80% of the 'advertised' wattage, making it safe to upgrade and the PSU to progress in life.

I currently have the Corsair HX1000. It's a modular PSU, and it's quite sturdy. I'd say Corsair is a really good bet for PSU's. They tend to have a good variety.

A corsair unit of ~650W will power your rig no worries, corsair do make good units.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Sorry if it came off that way. I just know people will often buy a 1000W uber PSU because they think it will make their PC more awesome, but it's just a huge waste. If you want to SLI eventually make sure you have enough connections for it on the PSU. That was a major buzz kill when I got my first PSU for my PC.

No, I understood what you were saying. You were trying to give him realistic expectations rather than allowing him to go Google the latest maximum wattage and assume that's what he needs.

It's like someone who pays $3000 for a Laptop for Facebook. I just wanted to make sure he understood the other end of the spectrum as well, instead of saying "ok so this says I will need 730w... better go get a 750W PSU.

I doubt you need hyperthreading so I would get an i5 not and i7. Also the 3770 does not support overclocking so if you wanted an i7 I would get a 3770K. Seriously though you probably only need a 3570K.

As for graphics card I would look into a GTX670 or a GTX660 (660 release next month).

As for the SSDs I would go with Crucial M4s, they are the most reliable brand. I have a 256GB M4 for my OS/Programs and a 512GB M4 for my games. Also make sure whatever SSD you get to update the firmware.

Whatever you get........ make sure it's modular. So nice to put away cables that you don't need.

If you're gonna SLI/crossfire, 1000w. If not... 550-750. I'm doing great with a 550w.
Using a C2D e7300 (@3.4ghz) and a gtx 560 Ti though.

Sandisk SSD G25 Ultra 60G
Sandisk SSD G25 Extreme 240GB

Antec 902 V3
Antec TruePower TP-750W

That's the new list.

Changed the power supply to Antec. I think 750W will be enough. I also downgraded the motherboard like some of you said I should.

With the graphics card.. I can get a Gigabyte instead of Asus for $40 cheaper so do you think I should do that or just stick with Asus..

Still a bit confused with the SSD. If I have my installed games and then I stop playing that game for a little just say.. is there a way I can like move the files to an external hard drive and then if I want to play them again.. move them back onto my SSD? Is that possible or something similar?

Yea that's exactly why i recommended Steam Mover in the first place.

It is worth noting, however, that you don't HAVE to install games on the SSD at all. The SSD will only improve loading times; not having much impact at all on the actual performance of the game. So if you can put up with looking at loading screens for a few seconds, then don't worry about installing the games on SSD.

Well, most of my games won't be on Steam, so will this still work?

And yeh I thought that's all the SSD did lol. How about programs? Is it the same? Just load quicker?

Ah, well, in that case I think you'll just be able to move the main bulk of the game files on and off your SSDs when you need to. Steam Mover basically just does that while also doing the slightly convoluted task of telling steam where to look for the files at all times.

Yea, should pretty much be the same with programs too. I guess it depends on what tasks you're performing, but for me personally, I need to access large amounts of audio files so that faster read speed would help me out a lot. Having said that, SSDs aren't really affordable at a large enough size to be used for my work drive just yet, so my SSD will mainly be just loading up the software packages themselves, and not offering too much benefit beyond that, I guess.

I'm not an expert by any means (as you may have already guessed icon_razz.gif ), so I'm sure someone could well prove me wrong on one or two of my points on this topic.

No worries man. Any reply in this thread helps me out so I appreciate it.

I've decided not to get the 60GB SSD and get a 500GB 3.5 SATA HDD for all my games. The 240GB SSD will have OS and most programs on it.

So Asus or Gigabyte for the GFX Card? Should I spend an extra $40 and get Asus?

As far as I know, both are pretty solid. I've been using Asus cards for a while now and I really like them. They often provide very good cooling that's not too loud. I've never owned a Gigabyte card, but I've heard they offer good value.

Are you going to be overclocking the GPU at all? If so, the Asus cooler might make more sense, as it gives you a bit more headroom. On the other hand, if you have no intention of overclocking, then the Gigabyte card might be better for you. Also, remember that if you change your mind later, you can always install an aftermarket cooler on your GFX card. You could spend the difference between the two cards (~$40) and I'm sure you'd end up with something that would close the gap between the two.

I just had a look on amazon.co.uk for the prices and it seems that the Asus is only £10 more than the Gigabyte card over here.
