I know the kind of game LoL is and how it caters to players who have no idea what they are doing. Basically every design choice Riot has done with that game to meet their ideal of "eliminating anti-fun" has caused the game to be extremely passive where in organized high-level matches there are usually never more than 10 deaths even on the losing team.

Dota's and HoN's mechanics are such that playing passive as you do in LoL is not worthwhile.

Of course 95% of LoL players can not recognize this because they don't know much about the genre and were lured in with psychological abuses like "free to play". These people will probably not enjoy dota2 since it's mechanics favors things Riot has deemed "anti-fun".

I don't mean to be condescending to LoL players but that is why I don't think LoL will be impacted too much by dota2. I play LoL more than any other game that is not called Starcraft Brood War right now and I know some of my online friends who play it at tournament levels.

Gotta agree but thats the main reason why I stopped playing LoL, and forced myself to play HoN. Playing on the anti-fun levels actually decreases your ability to deny lanes and heroes and out play lanes when it really matters. Theres a lot more factors into the things that I don't want to rant about but for my own sake, it feels like im playing a lazy game when playing LoL so DOTA2 is basically what I'm waiting for.

Warning long explanation will be long.

I first started playing LoL. Obviously because it was free, immediately got addicted, and have basically been playing nothing but it ever sense.

Somewhere between when i started and now i started reading up on other mobas. I wasn't going to presume without reason that LoL was the best one, and didn't want my efforts to be wasted on a shitty game. Found out that a lot of features have been stripped from LoL. Denying, you don't lose gold when you die, you don't have to buy your characters in most other mobas. in dota you have to pay to teleport back. Whilst I don't completely disagree with the reasons a lot of these things were removed from LoL for, i liked the sound of the other games better.

These are fair complaints against LoL (especially denying), but I think what's more important than any of these is how good the game plays in the actual combat and combat related strategy. Dota2 just didn't look as fun from what I watched from that perspective. It might have a great meta-game over LoL, but LoL still looks like more fun to me. I'm still trying to get into the beta to see for myself, but the game just didn't look as fun.

but don't get me wrong. I'm still playing LoL at least until dota2 comes out. We'll see what happens then. There is the friend factor as well. If none of my friends want to switch, then i probably wont.

It's on the Dota 2 website. Can't remember the link because it was kind of obfuscated, but you have to like go to the website, then go into steam, then go back to the website, then signup.

Not sure if there is a less stupid way to do it.
