What can I say? It's been a long time coming! Just today news from the VALVe office has emerged as our own Craig "Torbull" Levine has taken the trip down to supposedly "help develop" the new version of Counter-Strike. Counter-Strike:Global Offensive (CS:GO). Is this VALVe reaching out to the community, recognizing the competitive community?

News first arrived about the new version on the ESEA.net Facebook Page, saying:

"Counter Strike: Global Operation... More info tomorrow!"

Jess Cliffe, one of the original creators of Counter-Strike, was seen posting on the SteamPowered forums, saying "Global Offensive."

Rumors:

Planned to be released Q1 2012
Focuses on 5v5 competition
Press release within 24 hours from VALVe
Plays on an updated source engine
Individual & Team rankings
New Guns added
New Grenades
Dust & Aztec major revamp
Spamming still viable
Ammo is free

Looks like it's time to get back into CS. Especially since, if the rumors are true, it appears this is a nod to the competitive players, with statements like "Focuses on 5v5 competition".


Edit: One of the 20 guys there helping Valve test the game is doing an AMA. Some pretty cool info in there. Apparently they flew out a bunch of top competitive players so they'd get things right: http://www.reddit.co...s_headquarters/

Interesting, about 5 days ago I was in teamspeak with my clan and we were talking about CS and wishing we had manged to get in sooner and one of the guys was saying that if they brought out a new CS that he'd be all over it. So I guess my clan will be looking to get this. I like CS, but this means they will abandon Battlefield 3 and they had already planned to abandon it in favour of Farcry 3 when it gets released. So it looks like gaming is going to be hectic for them. I'm skipping BF3, but I might pick this up. Not sure though. Depends on if I'm still gaming as much.

Don't be hatin lol. Farcry 3 has a special place for my clan because it is how we all met each other. We met in a clan just after the release and after a couple of months 6 of us branched off to start our own clan. We have been gaming together since then. We aren't a pro/competitive clan as such, more a group of solid friends. So while FC2 had its issues and I'm sure FC3 will too, we are going to be playing it because it's close to our hearts as gamers and is a strong part of the clan's history.

I dont see how they can possibly improve or top CS or CSS but if they can pull it off... It's going to win over alot of old players and new. Pity they couldn't be building it on a new source engine though.

It's on an updated version of the Source engine and apparently only runs in DX9 (no 7 or 8 like in CSS). It's also going to be on consoles, so let's hope it isn't console-ified.

This game might be the savior of FPS games in eSports. Right now we've got fuck all (Black Ops and Halo don't count). I don't give a shit if the game has anything new or not (if it ain't broke, don't fix it).

im pretty stoked about this. im preying they make spectating/demo's more user friendly. like starcraft 2 replay user friendly. I posted on reddit and steam forums to get some pull but im sure it wont make a huge impact.

Valve had better make unusuals transferable between tf2 and CS:GO, otherwise i wouldnt be able to showoff my $2000 burning kabuto when everyone ditches tf2.

Oh, the actual game is nice... once in awhile... maybe... when im bored.
