Battlefield has a couple of free to play games now... but that's probably not what you're looking for, and they kinda require money to be spent to advance at all. Tetris and the original Donkey Kong can be found as flash games though... my personal favorite time wasters

I believe World of Tanks is free although I don't know this through experience. It's a great game from what I understand though.

It depends on what kind of games you like. It would be helpful if you can provide even a short list of the kinds you like.

I also agree that League of Legends is awesome, the only thing you'd spend real money on is various skins for the Champions.

Planetside 2 is free2play and downloadable through Steam. Pretty fun Sci-fi game and a great example of turfwars in an MMO Shooter done right.
If you're up for something with a steep learning curve (read: challenging
) and love cops + robbers style games like GTA with one of the best customisation systems you can find in a video game, then check out APB: Reloaded. Gun play isn't anything to write home about (and right now the servers are atrocious! But they will be upgrading the hardware "soon™"), but there's still tonnes of fun to be had ram-raiding shops, mugging pedestrians, stunning Crims with less-than-lethal weapons and arresting them etc. It's also a whole other game if you get a regular group together on TS. If you decide to try it out, give me a nudge (I'm a Gold threat, Rank 235 (max rank) Criminal on Patriot (EU2) with over 1000 hours experience) and I'd be happy to show you around and give you some pr0 tips and tricks
