Haha, yeah I thought the same thing. I did just drop $2.5k into my rig late December, and then again last month I bought 2nd monitor so I also decided to give the PC stuff a break for a while.

file transfer is surely faster with RAID, but this allows you to use a far superior RAID controller that will perform all of those calculations faster via its dedicated chip and memory. faster write and read via a 512mb cache. several advanced encryption options. secure erase functionality. pci-e x8 for superior bandwidth. 8 sata or sas drives connected directly, or 256 drives via expanders.
