It just started happening a day or two ago. Pretty much and videos I try watch have periods of frame stutter. The sound is all fine but the video will drop to about 3-5 fps. This happens across multiple media players (WMP, Media Player Classic, Gom Player, CyberLink PowerDVD) as well as on web based videos like youtube, justin.tv and Gom.tv . If it was just live streams I wouldn't think twice about it and just assume its the internet dropping speed for a few seconds. It even happens over all media file types, (Avi, mkv, mp4, flv). My computer is also more than powerful enough to handle playing videos (check sig). None of the 8 threads are being stressed more than 10% during these stutters and I'm only using 2.8-3.0 out of 16GBs of RAM.

I did just get a second 24" monitor on Thursday, could that be contributing to the problem?

Well.. if it weren't for the nice specs of your rig, I'd normally suggest to check your video drivers... Have you tried updating to the newest nVidia drivers and/or checked the video settings? Stuttering on Flash and video playback frequently means trouble with GPU hardware acceleration. Unfortunately in your case the CPU does not seem to suffer under a high load, so.. eh? icon_neutral.gif

Yeah I have been running hardware monitors constantly on the second screen so any time I get video stutters I can just glance and check so definately not much stress happening there. I do have the the latest video drivers and all the settings are the same as they have been for ages with no problems. I may actually try an older version of the drivers tomorrow.
The only things I can think of that have changed was the addition of my 2nd monitor. Do you happen to know of any problems that begin to arise with dual video cards and dual monitors?

What type of cable are you running?

If DVI,and using rez of 1920x1200 or higher, you need to use dual DVI cable.

Um yeah I'm running off the DVI ports at a res of 1920x1080. AFAIK both the cables are Dual Link DVI, also I'd never had any problems in the past just running the one monitor and its still using the same cable I always used for it, I've just got a 2nd one plugged into the other gfx card now for the 2nd monitor.
