Some details for those who are interested...
From the web series I've included a couple of the "bed tracks" that have been around since season 1. These were recorded way back in 2001 with a few friends, we used to call ourselves "The Antenna Band". The music was improvised. We'd have a little jam session in my dorm room and I'd cut together a few tracks from what was interesting. A few of the tracks ended up in PP.
The Pro at Cooking theme song has a second never-heard-before verse! Check it out.
The song from the Ep16 guitar battle is in there. I think it's some of the best work by Steve Ford and David DeDourek. I told Steve I wanted to go for the ultimate guitar song, touching on 70s prog rock, 80s metal, 90s grunge etc... Steve came back with this amazing rhythm guitar track complete with drums that seamlessly moved from genre to genre. Dave provided the solos, battling with himself.
Ninja Jesus by Pronobozo - I sent him the samples from the episode and he came back a few days later with the track that made the end credits of PPTV Ep2 awesome.
A few tracks were performed by Miranda Plant - 'Poker Dance' and 'Battlefield of Love'
PPTV Ep4 music was fun. High Voltage Rhythm, Master of Sandman, and Panama Teacher were our attempts to compress the quintessential elements of an entire discography into one song. Dave's Angus Young impression is spot on IMO. At first Steve didn't think it was possible to program drums to sound like Alex Van Halen (Steve uses a sequencer + samples for drums) because there's too many "flutters and flams and kerazy shit"... but he pulled it off in the end.
Melanie came into to record her vocals before we started shooting PPTV so these recordings are actually her first performance as October. On "Tilt Your Guitar" we were going for a classic Queen/Meatloaf feel. Before rolling we watched the video for "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" and she really captured the vibe in her performance. During production of the Tilt Your Guitar video, one of the props guys came up to me and said "I like that part, it reminds me of Meatloaf with the whole talking to singing bit" so maybe we pulled it off? Not that there are a lot of Meatloaf fans, but I thought that was cool.
I've included the 'scratch vocal' versions of some PPTV Ep4 songs. Those are the mp3s I sent out to Melanie before the recording session. It's me singing one take just to get the idea down. Maybe including them was a mistake?
Doug's Thriller Dance - I found a great deal on a Yamaha DX7 on craigslist which ended up being the inspiration for the scene. Love that classic 80s FM synth bass
Simon Waiting For You - I've included an instrumental version in case you want to sing your own karaoke
