Hello everybody!

I need help recreating this sort of meshed (I don't think that's the right word, my vocabulary in this sort of thing is terrible) effect:

I actually need to create almost this exact effect for a website I'm designing for a Free the Children spinoff site for a school. I need to know a few things, (btw I'm like a medium level photoshopper, I'm more of a video editor than anything)

1. What would be a good guess for what that material is called? I've been trying to think of it (stitching, mesh etc.) but I can't seem to get it right.
2. Does anyone know of any easy to understand, well made tutorials on doing an effect/texture/pattern like this (not even a similar effect is needed, just something that would take pretty much the same process)
3. *Optional* Someone actually helps me go through it step by step, I really don't want to ask for this but if I can't get the name of the material (which would help me significantly in finding a good tutorial on something like this) or a tutorial itself then I may need someone to help me make a non-destructive version of this effect in Photoshop.

*edit* oh and I'd like to make the texture from scratch or using photoshop tools only, I don't like overlapping textures taken from other people or w/e. If I MUST resort to this I may, but I'd rather make something like this from scratch (which seems totally possible with some of the skills I have, just not all of them)
