Don't get a PS3 unless there are PS3 exclusives you REALLY want. It's the only reason to get one.
When a game is released for both consoles, the 360 version is always better.

GT5, God of War III, MGS, Heavy Rain, LBP 1/2, and I guess that's it. Hmm. Doesn't seem reason enough to justify spending another $300+

also, you can probably find one on craigslist or ebay for 200-250 if you wait around for someone desperate to show up.

I wish I still had mine. I remember for the longest time I never owned my copy. We rented it from a hastings and never returned it... Three years pass by and we try to rent a movie from there again and the overdue amount was something like 127 dollars.... Yeah... I don't remember what happened to my copy.... Last I remember I let my friend borrow it for a few days....

can it play pretty much any format? most blu-ray rips are mkv's. can it play those?

I normally just get DVD quality movies. They work like a charm. I did try playing a 720p movie in mkv format once and it didn't work so well. If I remember right, we ended up just putting it on a laptop and hooking that up to the TV. I forget if we even got it to play at all on the PS3 though. :/

Convert them to DivX. That is how I did it and I had them all on my 500 GB External drive. Plug it into the usb and just make sure the movies are in a folder called "VIDEO" from there you can add folders to classify them by genre.

If you use Vuze (Azureus), the client has a pretty nifty conversion app-type thing, i think it does iphones/ipods, ps3 and a couple of other things... worth a mention i thought
