Hello Pure Pwnage Forums!

My name is Jamie Hobbs, I am a student at the University of Calgary. I am taking a course on Love and how it is expressed in the fine arts. My professor gave me a choice between doing a final 2000 word essay, or creating a project / performance. Naturally I went with option #2.

Here is where you come in. I am looking for people to create a sign that says "I Love _____" Fill in the blank (This could be things like "I Love pwning noobs", "I Love Video Games", Ect), take a photo of themselves holding up the sign and then e-mail it to me. I am going to hand in all of the photos I collect as part of my project.

I dont understand. I take a picture of myself with a sign saying "I love vidya", send it to you, and then what? You simply hand the pictures in? I dont understand how that is helping you reach your goal. Or is the project to create a community around this ie the FB page etc?

This started as a project I had to do for a class on Love and how it is expressed in Fine Arts. I have a pretty cool prof, and he gave us the option of either writing an essay or taking part in "The Love Challenge". In The Love Challenge we had to come up with a way to showcase love in the community, and so I created this project to do just that. In order for me to document it for my class and get graded on it, I was just planning on handing in the photos.

But after 3 days this has snowballed like crazy. We now have over 4000 people invited to the facebook group, and me and my friend Joanna have been inspired to take this further than just a class project. We issued a challenge to the facebook/internet community that if we can get 500 people to take a I Love ___ photo and send it to us, then we would donate $500 to a local charity.

Now speaking as someone who has been in the arts community for the past several years, I have many options as to what I can do with the photos when this project has come to its conclusion. I have already been approached to create some kind of photo book, and there is also lots of visual arts galleries in town that love this kind of community based work.

Ohh I see. Is the focus of the pictures of the person behind the love sign or the sign itself?

you didn't answer my question whore. What are you going to do with the pictures? If you're just going to turn in a pile of pictures I won't do it because that's lame. If you're going to actually do something with them though, then it might actually be cool.

I didn't see if you posted the due date of this assignment, though I'm assuming it was before the semester ended? It looks as though you're still lookin for pix though.

im a fine art major and even i think this sounds like he is trying to get other people to do the work for him. other people took photos so he could turn them in....???

that's why I asked my question which was never answered. If it was being turned into a collage or a video or something it would make sense, but asking people to take a picture to just turn them in is kind of weak.
