Heyyo,

Poor October sales for DJ Hero 2 and EA Sports MMA, too.
Tony Hawk: Shred screenshot

Activision's second game in the rebooted Tony Hawk video game franchise, board-controller compatible Tony Hawk: Shred, sold only 3,000 copies during its first week on sale in the US, reports GamesIndustry.biz.

Analysts Cowan and Company described the game's debut as a "virtual no-show".

Performing marginally better in October, but still relatively poorly was DJ Hero 2 which sold 59,000 copies during its first two weeks on sale.

EA's MMA, recently described as dead on arrival shifted only 45,000 copies in the October period, while the publisher's Medal of Honor sold just over one million copies during October.
VideoGamer.com Analysis

The failure of Tony Hawk: Shred must signal a change in strategy for Activision in the extreme sports space. Last month developer Robomodo released 60 staff and said it would no longer be working on the franchise, but in which studio's hands it will end up remains unclear.

Wow.. only 3000 units? Is that even enough to cover half the development costs? icon_razz.gif

I still remember Tony Hawk 2.. that was a fucking sweet game.. but I guess this goes to show you interactive games with controllers don't always work.

I thought that series ended? This news comes as no surprise really, I lost interest after THUG, and there must have been at least half a dozen more Hawk titles out there. I would have thought people who are really into skateboarding titles would probably be tempted to go down the route of playing Skate instead, this just proves it.

Heyyo,

Yeah I know a few guys who skateboard and say Skate 2 is the best skateboarding game they've ever played.. Tony Hawk series is pretty much finished.. cause seriously, who wants to flop around on a plastic board when they can just do that with a real board? icon_razz.gif

At this point it may be worth it to buy just because it will become a collectors piece. Kinda like virtua boy.

Collectors piece? More like collectors PIECE OF SHIT Lol!111

But really.. I didn't even hear about this game. And I think the last good one was THUG as someone said above.

Love how the resident tough guy is happy to talk trash on an internet forum but back pedals as soon as he is called out. Typical coward. No doubt he'll respond to this with excessive bravado in order to restore his rightful place as a fully fledged internet badass.

No, this goes to show that when your already-growing-stale franchise gains major (and better) competition and doesn't adapt people will stop buying it

Yeah that too. icon_razz.gif

The part that makes me wonder.. after this catastrophic failiure... is Activision still going to milk the Tony Hawk lineup?

It stopped making a profit, why would they?
You think they'll actually attempt something original?

That's not Kotick's way.

god damn idiots. if a franchise is failing, the LAST thing you do is attached an expensive peripheral. should have gone the opposite direction and made an arcade game that was only like 20 bucks but just focused on...o i dont know....skating?

morons.

Heyyo,

Heh, well they were probably trying something new like how Rockband made peripherals awesome.. and I can see some benefit to the skateboard peripheral if you wanted to learn how to.. but other than that? yeah I don't think the majority of people would bother with this.

As for making profits? well obviously they lost a crapton of money on Shred only selling 3000 units.. icon_razz.gif
